Gamify Your Airbnb Hospitality

Sound Familiar?

Pesky Problem

Your thoughtful Airbnb hospitality arrives just a little too late.

Your Airbnb is loaded with thoughtful touches and generous hospitality. You really are the hostess with the mostest. Except…most of your kind gestures never get fully appreciated because they arrive just a little too late. Your guests keep discovering your thoughtful solutions after they’ve already solved for their absence.

Here’s a simple example. You have a variety of chargers available for guests to top up their devices. In this digitally dependent age of ours, you’ve already anticipated the moment where a guest realizes, “Oh shoot! I completely forgot my phone charger. It’s still plugged in at home!” You think, “No worries. I’ve got you.”

The problem is that your entire phone charger collection is tucked away in a nondescript drawer in the living room. By the time your guests stumble across them on day 3 of their stay, they’re already 72 hours into sharing the single charger someone remembered to pack. And yes. The situation has caused—shall we say—a bit of tension during the stay.

Let's Try This

Bite-Size Solution

Gamify your Airbnb hospitality and count up the “I placed this here for you” moments.

The solution is to place your thoughtful amenities in the exact spot where they’ll be needed. Make it a game: how many times can you create a moment where a guest needs something and then immediately discovers you’ve already thought of it? Tally up these “I placed this here for you” moments and see if you can up your score between each stay.

Here are a few examples:

  • Instead of tucking extra phone chargers in a spare drawer, plug them in and lay them across the nightstand, ready to charge phones overnight.
  • Post your Airbnb’s address on the fridge right next to the delivery takeout menus you’ve already gathered from your favorite local restaurants.
  • Instead of tucking the empty Brita filter in a cabinet, fill it up and place it in the fridge, ready to be used upon arrival.
  • Place an empty glass upside down on each nightstand coaster as a gentle hydration reminder for guests, especially at higher altitudes.
  • Provide an obvious basket or bench to hold the bed’s decorative throw pillows that won’t be needed while guests are actually sleeping.

5 Minutes

Here's Your First Step

Aim for a “ready-to-use” starting score of five.

Now it’s your turn. Walk through your space with a notepad and look for all of the thoughtful amenities you already provide that could be placed in a more obvious, just-in-time spot. Remember, if an amenity is never discovered by a guest, it’s like it never existed. See if you can come up with five new “ready-to-use” amenity placements. And then, each time you’re flipping your space, extend the game. Can you come up with just one more? Let the Airbnb hospitality games begin!
