How to Get Guests to Use Your Airbnb Amenities

Sound Familiar?

Pesky Problem

Your Airbnb guests aren’t actually using your coolest amenities.

Guests come and go, and yet your best Airbnb amenities have been left untouched. These are the amenities you were convinced would be total crowd pleasers. The amenities you went out of your way to acquire and share with your visitors. And yet, here they are again, unused and unappreciated. What gives?

Let's Try This

Bite-Size Solution

Set up your best amenities so they’re immediately ready to use.

Quick inspirational tangent. We promise this relates. Have you ever been to a Cracker Barrel restaurant? (If not, no worries. Just picture a cluttered country store attached to a big, open eating hall. It’s meant to feel like a small town experience plucked out of the American south, but of course, it’s been heavily corporatized and installed 30 miles north and south of every major US city. Oh. And they have delicious biscuits.)

So along with the wood burning fireplace, rocking chairs, and candy counter, every Cracker Barrel has a set of checkers. And when the place gets busy, while folks are waiting for a table or waiting for their food, there are almost always people playing checkers. Now, nobody walked into the restaurant with the goal of playing checkers. These games are almost always spontaneous and rarely ever finished. And yet, here folks are, moving red and black pucks across the board. Why?

Here’s the secret: the checkerboard was already set up. Every piece was in its starting lineup. The chairs were open and waiting. Folks were wondering by. And suddenly, as if a gravitational pull were in play, guests find themselves 15 moves into a game when suddenly the rest of their family calls them back over to their table because the food has arrived.

This is what you want to replicate at your place: the seemingly accidental, practically impulsive enjoyment of your best Airbnb amenities. Instead of tucking your top notch stuff into drawers, baskets, or closets, you want to set out and set up your amenities so that they’re ready for immediate use. Your goal is to completely eliminate any potential excuse or friction preventing guests from enjoying your best amenities. In other words, you’ve got to set up your checkerboard. That intuitive itch to move the pieces will take care of the rest.

5 Minutes

Here's Your First Step

Make a list of 5 of your Airbnb amenities you wish guests enjoyed more often.

Time to put this tip into action. Make a list of the top five amenities you wish your guests enjoyed more. These could be amenities you know would enhance their stay, create memorable bonding opportunities between fellow travelers, or amenities that are just plain fun.

Then ask yourself how to remove any friction around using them. Set them up so they’re out in the space, totally ready to use and irresistible. After you do this, our bet is that these amenities will start showing up in your reviews as top highlights for your guests.
