Share your passion projects with Airbnb guests

Sound Familiar?

Pesky Problem

You keep your passion projects to yourself (like a hotel employee).

You’ve got talent. Several talents, actually. But you keep those passion projects separate from your role as a host. You’re mistakenly convinced that they’re of no interest to your guests. And after all, a hotel employee wouldn’t share their personal projects with guests at the check-in desk.

True, but that’s because a hotel employee is representing a larger brand that has to be standardized regardless of who’s working the front desk. But you? You are your brand in so many ways. What makes you unique makes your Airbnb unique. And hint hint hint…guests love learning that their host has talents beyond hospitality.

Let's Try This

Bite-Size Solution

Share your talents with your guests.

Heck, flaunt your talents! Set humility aside here. Guests adore a little peek into your world. This is part of what makes an Airbnb stay so memorable and, importantly, so different from the faceless hotel chain that your guests, intentionally, chose not to book. Instead they picked you.

We can rattle off dozens of passions our hosts have shared with us: historical building preservation, cut flower farming, painting, interior design expertise, raising chickens, hunting mushrooms, social justice work, gardening, cooking, and web design, just to name a few.

And then there’s the graffiti. To this day, our third Airbnb stay continues to set the ultimate hospitality benchmark. There are so many pieces of Chantal and Alex’s Airbnb to emulate. But what we remember most was Alex’s art.

As we drove onto the property and closed the gate behind us, we immediately noticed a joyous painting of the family’s golden retriever, Mango, on the inside of the six foot fence. As we parked, we admired a splash of graffiti on the front and side of the shed. And then as we entered the space, we were greeted by several bright canvases hanging on the wall. Alex’s graffiti wasn’t just delightful. It was the signature fingerprint that made us appreciate the Carriage House as the one-of-a-kind space it truly is.

5 Minutes

Here's Your First Step

Identify your first shareable piece.

So now it’s your turn. What piece of your talents could you share with your guests? Maybe this is something super small, like mentioning your passion project / talent / side hustle in your “About Me” Airbnb profile. Or maybe there’s a little piece of this passion project that you can add to the space. Or perhaps even gift or sell to your guests.

We’ve bought eggs from hosts, enjoyed baskets full of veggies picked from the garden, and spent hours on their personal websites learning all about their life outside of hosting. In the end, these little human connections are part of what makes this type of travel feel so electric. So don’t hold back your spark for humility’s sake. There are eager humans waiting to be inspired by you.
