Sound Familiar?
Pesky Problem
It’s raining.
More specifically, it’s raining while you’re hosting Airbnb guests who booked your place precisely because of the nearby outdoor attractions. All of their vacation daydreams revolved around the beach, or the national park, or the vineyard tours. You know: the sun. But instead it’s pouring. And they’re stuck inside your house staring at each other, grumpy and compulsively refreshing the weather app. Not exactly good fodder for a five star review.
We’ve been these guests. Both our California Highway 1 road trip and our excursion to Cape Cod are fondly remembered now. But in the moment, we spent a good chunk of time wallowing in our soppy bad luck, frantically attempting to photograph these destinations in the brief glimpses of sun we got.
Let's Try This
Bite-Size Solution
Create a robust rainy day itinerary for your guide book.
The best hosts know that rainy days are inevitable, even if you live somewhere renowned for its good weather or idyllic beach bumming. When these predictable days pop up, your goal is to be prepared to help your understandably disappointed guests rebound with a robust rainy day plan. Round out your guide book with a variety of unique and interesting local indoor suggestions tailored to couples, families, and solo travelers so that no guest spends their whole rainy day feeling sorry for themselves.
5 Minutes
Here's Your First Step
Brainstorm your favorite indoor local hotspots.
Time to brainstorm! Where would you take a friend visiting during less than ideal weather? A local brewery tour? The nearby science museum? An indoor sporting event? Set a timer for five minutes and jot down as many destinations as you can think up. This will give you all the material you need to update your guide book with a new rainy day section.
