Sound Familiar?
Pesky Problem
Your Airbnb has a junk drawer.
Or maybe it’s actually a junk closet. Or dresser. Or the random collection of things shoved under the bed. It’s easy for hodgepodge collections of stuff to accumulate in Airbnbs. But the truth is household clutter and serene vacations just don’t mix. Clutter left by previous guests is even worse. Imagine checking into a nice hotel. If you walked into your room and found nightstand drawers or mini fridges full of random, inexplicable things, you’d be right back down in the lobby requesting a new room.
Let's Try This
Bite-Size Solution
Every item in your Airbnb should be functional or beautiful.
Like we said last week, there are two golden rules to outfitting your Airbnb. First, every item should be replaceable. And second, every item in your Airbnb should be intentional. That means each item is either functional or beautiful. Everything else should go. (Seriously, everything else.)
This intentional quality is what distinguishes good Airbnbs from the truly great ones. In an ideal world, your Airbnb would start off totally empty. Then you would add one item at a time, cognizant of how it either made the space more useful, elevated its aesthetic beauty, or (ideally) did both.

Here's Your First Step
Go on a clutter hunt and write down what you find.
Your first step is to put on your detective’s hat and sleuth around your own space. Where is the clutter hiding? Open the drawers, peek under the furniture, check the fridge. Yes, eventually you’ll want to clean up these areas, either removing or locking up superfluous items. But to start, just document what you find so that you can start to make a plan. Ultimately, the end goal is to craft an undeniably intentional space. When guests walk into your Airbnb and every item feels like it was hand-placed, positioned just so, they feel like you’ve created this whole world just for their vacation. What could be more special than that?
