Sound Familiar?
Pesky Problem
Your guests were expecting more (or less) privacy.
As guests narrow down listings by the “type of place” filter, Airbnb provides three options: entire place, private room, or shared room. Private room or shared room experiences tend to be pretty predictable and consistent from host to host. But the “entire place” category can feel like a complete gamble for guests. From basement suites to standalone homes, “entire place” becomes the catchall category for anything with a private entrance. And given the app’s generous description of “a place all to yourself,” it’s easy to see how guests can end up frustrated when they arrive to find something less than a completely secluded property.
Let's Try This
Bite-Size Solution
If your Airbnb falls in the “entire place” category, give more context.
Friction typically results from the chasm between expectations and reality. If your Airbnb falls under the “entire place” category, take the initiative and paint a picture of what potential guests should actually expect.
- How much personal interaction can guests expect?
- Do you live on site, down the road, or far away?
- How close are neighbors?
- How close are other guests?
- What do shared amenities look like?
