Hosting Airbnb Guests on the Holidays

Sound Familiar?

Pesky Problem

It’s a holiday and you’ve got guests.

To all those hosts in the United States today, Happy Thanksgiving! It’s a day of food, family, football, and…hosting? Yep, we’ve seen it firsthand. (We’ve actually been those guests.) There are plenty of hosts who navigate a holiday balancing act of being present with their loved ones while still being available for their guests. And the question inevitably arises: Do I do anything differently for guests here on a holiday?

Let's Try This

Bite-Size Solution

Do a little something extra. (Emphasis on little).

In our opinion, yes. If you’ve got guests staying with you on a holiday you celebrate, we’d recommend doing a little something extra to acknowledge the special circumstances. But emphasis on little. Really. We’re talking about something super small, not yet another weighty thing added to your holiday to-do list.

The easiest example of this is sharing a little something you’re already eating or drinking with your guests. Most holidays come with an abundance of food, so siphoning off just a little for your guests can be that thoughtful touch they’ll remember for years. (Seriously. We still remember the flutes of homemade chocolate mousse our hosts brought upstairs to us on a Thanksgiving we spent in an old Victorian house in Connecticut. After our makeshift meal for two, it was the best thing we ate all day.)

Here's Your First Step

Share a piece of your own holiday traditions.

So as we kick off the holiday season, pick a little something that you can share with your guests. You don’t have to invite them to dinner. (They may very well be looking for a quiet day to themselves). You don’t have to buy them a sizable gift that eats into your profits. Just look around at your own holiday traditions and see if there’s a little bit of that joy you can share. It will mean more than you know.
